One of the few mountain summits in the Canadian Rockies that can be easily
ascended by the casual walker. The view over Banff townsite, the golf
course and Bow Valley are outstanding considering the relatively easy
ascent.
The wide, well-maintained trail climbs steadily through a dry forest.
The views of the townsite below, the Vermilion Lakes and the relatively
level Bow Valley gradually open up. Few minutes later, the glimpse of
the Scottish baronial splendour of the Banff Springs Hotel appears, which
is set between the distinctive slope of Mount Rundle and Sulphur Mountain
on the opposite.
A little further up the trail, you can see where the Spray River enter
the Bow River just below the Bow Falls. Then the trail becomes rocky and
mostly open as it reaches the top of the ridge. The summit is partially
treed, however, you can walk a few meters on either side to gain better
views.
