The trail begins at Bow Lake, it travels over braided gravel flats through a gorge, passes a natural bridge to a vast, open alpine area topped by glaciers and a huge waterfall.

Bow Lake is glacial blue, reflecting the white glaciers of Crowfood Mountain above. In season, the meadows are flush with flowers. Ahead, the tongue of Bow Glacier dips down from the vast snowfields above, part of the Waputik Icefield, which straddles the Continental Divide. About twenty minutes from the highway, the surround area becomes a wild, rugged and quiet world.
